I went to a critique group last week and then spent several days on a revision rampage.
Turns out they may not be 100% correct in their feedback.
Sometimes describing the scene is a good thing and it’s possible a reader who gives you a critique writes differently than you do.
I was taught to be descriptive and paint the scene. I was told last week that I’m being too descriptive. What did I do? Ripped out paragraph after paragraph of things that didn’t absolutely have to be in the story.
I removed back-story that could’ve been considered filler. I took out whole swaths of character descriptions. I deleted an entire chapter because it didn’t progress the story.
Then someone wise and helpful told me that critiques are just opinions.
I took them too literally.
